My Career in Business Management

The beginning of college.

It was the moment in my high school year when we had to begin applying for a CEGEP for the next year. I had a few references that came in handy with my choice. At first, I was trying to find my purpose in life and what I wanted to do in the future. I always wanted to be a soccer player and even though I knew it was not easy to have a career in sport, I always thought I could pull off a chance and become a professional athlete. But, at the same time, I can't depend on being a soccer player only, I had another plan that could be getting me a great career. I wanted to work in the Business world. In the end, I had to choose between apply for a CEGEP in Quebec to study Social Science or apply to a University in the United States and get a chance to study as a student athlete with a scholarship.

Choice 1 : Apply for a CEGEP school and study Social Science.

Choice 2 : Apply to a University school in the United States and study Social Science as a student athlete.

Jacques-Rousseau High School

Apply for a CEGEP school and study Social Science.

I decided to apply for a CEGEP school to study Social Science. Luckily with this decision, I didn't have to put aside the chance of playing soccer. I have the chance to try for one of the CEGEP teams in August. Furthermore, when studying Social Science, I was getting lesson and knowledge on how the world of economic works, the world as a businessman and manager works. I was getting a foot in the door in the industry. As a student, a lot of what I will be learning in those 3 years, will come in handy later on in my professional life. On top of that, I needed to choose which CEGEP I will attend to study Social Science. I had the choice between College Ahuntsic or CEGEP Edouard-Montpetit.

Choice 1 : Starting as a student in College Ahuntsic.

Choice 2 : Starting as a student in the CEGEP Edouard-Montpetit.

Ahuntsic vs Edouard-Montpetit

Apply to a University school in the United States and study Social Science as a student athlete.

I decided to apply to a university in the United States to study Social Science. I knew a coach of mine, he had contacts with university in USA, and he told me I could get a scholarship to go study there and play soccer too. By knowing my parents, I knew they could only accept if I had the will to take my studies seriously. I had been withholding the idea for a long time, now I have decided to make it happen. Besides, me and my family had thought about it thoroughly, and we finally decided that it worth a shot. I had to work to get some income before going there. I started with some dead-end job, and after I worked in an office for all summer to save money. All summer, I was getting sucked up in bad relationships with my co-workers. Some of them tried hindering me. I was glad when I quit the job. Now I am going to the United States!

Choice 1 : Started as a student at Kansas University as a student athlete.

University Of Kansas

Starting as a student in College Ahuntsic.

I started to attend Ahuntsic College after high school in Social Science with mathematics. At first, I came in school without knowing a lot of people since the school was in another city from mine. I started to get along with some guys in my different classes and mostly my teammates on the soccer team. The first 2 semesters in the program were pretty easy. It was like an introduction to the field of study. We pulled of the second year of CEGEP. The second Mathematics class was a little bit hard, but I managed. My last year in Ahuntsic was great, it was normal I guess I became more mature, and went to school to do my stuff and head back home quickly. I got my DEC, and I was giving the choice to go to HEC Montreal to pursue my studies or get a job in the industry.

Choice 1 : Starting as a student in HEC Montreal.

Choice 2 : Apply for a job.

College Ahuntsic

Starting as a student in the CEGEP Edouard-Montpetit.

So, I started to go in CEGEP Edouard-Montpetit in Social Science with mathematics. It was a school where I had a lot of friends. And it got pretty hard focusing in my studies because of that. We will go to parks after school to play soccer, go eat together, etc. I definitely didn't manage well my time for my homework and after one year, I drop off school. Before I even realized, I was working in dead-end jobs one after another.

CEGEP Edouard-Montpetit

Started as a student at Kansas University as a student athlete.

So, I arrived in Kansas and attended the university. I began the semester with a lot of soccer preseasons practices, so I had little time to get use to my new environment. It was a great experience though. There were a lot of students, and I basically lived in the school because the dorms were right in front of the school. I learned a lot in my 4 years there, I got a big package of knowledge before entering the world of professional. Even though school wise I was ready to go work for a company, I had also been doing great on the soccer field. So, at the end of my bachelor diploma, I had the choice of either going for a tryout for Inter Miami's academy or go back in Montreal and apply for a job.

Choice 1 : Go back to Montreal and apply for a job.

Choice 2 : Get ready for the tryout for Inter Miami's academy.

Starting as a student in HEC Montreal.

Alright, it's the start of a new adventure, and I hope to be able to finish it! I got in HEC really easily, they accepted me pretty much quickly. I studied in information technology (IT) manager. It got hard at the end of my university years, but I didn't lack energy, and I was really giving my all. In my last year, I got an internship in Intelcom.inc as an IT service center manager. I was a trainee, and I got all the OJT that I needed to perform well. It was a great experience, and a foot in the door for my field of studies. The manager told me when I finish my school I should apply here that he would give me an opportunity.

Choice 1 : Starting as an IT service center manager for Intelcom.inc.

HEC Montreal

Apply for a job.

I made the choice to apply for a job, but not right now. I was a lot in my books lately, so I want to travel for now. Go places that I never been and get a chance to watch my favorite soccer team Fc Barcelona. I spent 2 years travelling and not working, and I started to have money issues. I really needed to find a job before I get in big trouble. Luckily, I had my DEC, so I was able to get a job in social. I got a call from a friend for a job in social media as a coordinator. I wasn't happy at first, but I needed something, so I jumped at the chance. I learn the ropes in this work, and I finally liked it a lot!

Go back to Montreal and apply for a job.

I got on the airplane, going back to see my family, and celebrate my bachelor degree. After the celebration, I began searching for a job. Because I didn't do any internship here, it was hard to find a job. Luckily, I had an interview for a job in computer science. It was as an analytical specialist. I started presenting myself in front of the HR while they were doing a background check. I explained in-depth my course since high school, and they were really happy that I was in the United States and studied there. I got the job with a premium wage. Although I got it, some of my colleagues weren't so happy of having a new member in the crew. Some of them were trying to hinder my work, and others were withholding information that the manager gives to us from me. I got sucked up in a weird environment. I quit after 2 years and started a new business. It is great, and I love it!

Get ready for the tryout for Inter Miami's academy.

So, I decided to come to the tryout because I always loved playing soccer and always dreamed of becoming a professional player. I had a great tryout, and it turns out I signed a contract for the club and by the age of 24 years old, I started to play with the first team in the MLS. I then got a pretty great career for myself. I was really proud so was my family. I retired at 36 years old in CF Montreal, the club from my city. After retirement, I started to train my son so that he can accomplish more than me in his future career. It was an alienation for my future legacy in soccer.

Starting as an IT service center manager for Intelcom.inc. the HR didn't need to look at my C.V because they already knew me. the manager was ready to give me a premium wage because I was able to speak multiple languages. I already knew all of my colleagues, so it wasn't difficult to settle in. I spent a lot of time there and finished as a vice-president for the company. I retired after 25 years in the company, and because I invest in the company, I was still getting incomes after retirement.
